Package Description

Starting from the courtyard in the village of San Leonardo, we will lead you to discover our vineyards immersed in the woods and gardens that surround Villa Gresti. We will open the doors of the wine cellar and then descend into the large underground barrel cellar where the wines are refined in silence. We will let you discover the ancient monastic garden with the collection of roses and medicinal herbs and then continue with a visit to the museum and the collection of historic tractors, ending with the ancient church dedicated to the cult of San Leonardo.

Followed by a tasting of 6 wines in their current vintages.

Duration approximately 2 hours

History of the Cellar

San Leonardo, 1982: it is the year zero of a wine destined to write a new, significant chapter in the history of its territory and of Italian winemaking. That place and its monastery had been talked about for over a thousand years. However, it was the intuition of the Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga that started a project capable of interpreting at the highest levels what his land could express. We are in Vallagarina, in the south of Trentino. Nestled between the Lessini Mountains and Monte Baldo, bathed by the Adige River, you can see the San Leonardo estate. Merlot has been cultivated here since the beginning of the 20th century and a particular Cabernet Franc since the end of the 19th century, capable of giving great personality to the wines, so much so that it was later understood to be a true rarity: the Carmenère. The oenological preparation of Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, his knowledge of the great Bordeaux wines, the introduction of Cabernet Sauvignon in the vineyard and new techniques in the cellar, together with the desire to give a true entrepreneurial depth to his company, are the key components that allowed the birth of San Leonardo in 1982. A wine that immediately became an icon because it contained unique characteristics in the Italian wine scene: an expression of its territory, Bordeaux in its blend, “Nordic” in its freshness and elegance, unmistakable for a stylistic figure that brings together complexity and substance in perfect harmony. More than forty harvests have passed since 1982, but San Leonardo has always remained true to itself, despite the diversity of the vintages, standing out for its refinement and authenticity, the same qualities that distinguish the Marchese Carlo and his son Anselmo, who in 2012 was entrusted with the reins and custody of the estate. The essence of the estate's wines, their magic, are first and foremost due to the land where they are born. Marchese Carlo wrote: "The land is the soul of our profession" and his son Anselmo specifies: "What makes San Leonardo unique are also the people who have lived and lovingly cared for this territory for generations".
