The Winery’s Story
The winery is within the medieval village of Castello di Torre in Pietra, where vineyards are documented from the 16th century. The estate covers 150 hectares, around 50 under vine, among gentle hills of tuff and breccia within the Roma DOC area. We vinify only our own grapes, grown organically with passion, care and respect for our land. Senator Luigi Albertini purchased the Torre in Pietra estate in 1926. Forced to sell Corriere della Sera, of which he was editor and co-owner, because of his disagreement with the Fascist regime, he began a major new business venture and extensive reclamation of the estate’s land. His son Leonardo Albertini and son-in-law Nicolò Carandini took responsibility for overseeing the work and founding a large, modern farm covering 2,500 hectares. Friesian dairy cattle were introduced to Italy, and a model business specialising in milk production, processing and packaging was created, giving rise to the Torre in Pietra brand.
