The Winery’s Story
Castrum Wine Relais welcomes you to Valpolicella for a memorable wine experience. At the entrance to Valpolicella Classica, on the highest hill in Castelrotto, stands Castrum Rotari, a military stronghold built in the 7th century. Over the centuries it hosted figures who shaped Valpolicella’s history. The estate’s account recalls a decree issued by Frederick Barbarossa in 1177, changing the area’s name from Val di Veriago e Pruviniano to Valpolicella.
