The Winery’s Story
Among the Chianti Classico hills, halfway between Siena and Florence, Le Filigare takes its name from the hill on which it stands. Vineyards and olive groves bring history and nature together in a distinctive landscape. The property includes two historic hamlets: Le Filigare, in Barberino Tavarnelle, and Le Macine, in Castellina in Chianti. Founded in the 11th century and once called Fiaccole di Sopra, Le Filigare retains the atmosphere of its traditions, when torches lit the village during its patron saint’s celebrations. Over the centuries, the estate welcomed distinguished guests, including Pope Pius IX, who stayed here on holiday at the invitation of Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany.
