History of the cellar

PERTICAIA is the word used in the archaic language of Umbria to refer to the plough, the tool that, more than any other, marks the transition from sheep farming to agriculture.
A territory, a vine, a wine.
It is natural that right here, in the heart of green Umbria, among hills cultivated with vineyards and olive trees, dotted with towers, villages and medieval castles, the decision was made to give life to Perticaia. After purchasing the land, a substantial work of planting new vineyards and the construction of a modern cellar began, in perfect balance with the surrounding environment and taking care to maintain the appearance of the old agricultural companies in the area.

Respectful of the teachings of the past, the company today boasts around fifty hectares of vineyards
Of these, more than ten hectares are planted with Sagrantino, in addition to one and a half hectares of olive grove: “Vigna delle Querce” is bordered by centuries-old plants preserved after the transformation of the land, once used for arable land; “Vigna Attone” runs alongside the stream of the same name and “Vigna Montioni” takes its name from the family of the old owners.

The lands, all hilly, are slightly sloping, at an altitude between 320 and 350 m above sea level, mainly exposed to the south, south-west. As per tradition for the Perticaia winery, after the harvest, which is done manually, in the cellar, each production step is aimed at enhancing what the season and the territory have been able to express in the fruit.

A winery capable of producing wines of great expressiveness and elegance, to be discovered one by one to come into contact with Umbria, and with those that are the most representative vines of the entire region and of the Montefalco area in particular.
